The Black Blogosphere African Americans have been communicating over the digital media since the beginning; before Wikis & Blogs, before World Wide Web, and before AOL became a comic catchphrase. In the old days, Black netizens used newsgroups and e-mail to communicate electronically around the world – “soc.culture.african.american” had thousands of readers every day trading and posting messages. Today, “Blogging Black” is a very popular activity on the Web. There are a number of excellent Blogs and social networks created by people of color, or contain content that will interest anyone concerned about African and African American affairs. For instance, Blog Africa http://www.blogafrica.com offers robust information about Africa, unfiltered by the mainstream media. Also, many big and small businesses, all serious politicians, and a majority of school kids have Blogs. Social Networks such as Myspace.com or Ning.com likewise are important tools of the Web. http://afrospear.wordpress.com – AfroSpear is a “Think Tank for People Of African Descent”. There you can find the AfroSphere which has an extensive list of African and African American blogs.
